People are often dumb, so how can crowds be wise? James Surowiecki laid the groundwork in his book, "The Wisdom of Crowds." In this solo presentation, Derek Powazek will apply those ideas to the web, concentrating on how to design websites that empower people to work together to create something truly awesome.
"internet is cool."
this is what it mean.

@joeglassfield1 Groupthink is definitely a problem but one of the elements he mentions is diversity and independence. With a diverse group of thinkers, they will not come up with the same ideas. With independent thinkers, they will not influence each other. There is no possibility of groupthink with the correct criteria for crowd wisdom. The book "The Wisdom of Crowds" by James Suroweicki explains the needed elements quite well.

Interesting stuff. What he is touting here is an application of free market principles.

the problem with this theory is the backing of groupthink research. most of which says that groups will contribute less or incorrectly when compared with their individual efforts. nice presentation though
