An investigation is under way after eight people were held hostage in a Lee's Summit warehouse early Friday morning, police said.
Police said it happened at Romeo Trucking in the 1200 block of Market Street.
Investigators said that at 9 p.m. Thursday, David May, of Grandview, told his wife that he was going to install a surveillance camera at a house in Lee's Summit that they use for storage because it had been broken into several times. When May failed to return home by midnight, his wife called police.
Officers met May's wife at the storage house but did not find her husband. She showed police a video system set up to tape movement around the front of the house. Officers reviewed the tapes and found footage from about 10 p.m. of what appeared to be May being chased through the yard by another man.
More officers were called in to canvass the area, but they couldn't find May.
At about 7 a.m., officers again drove by the area and spotted a man stumbling out of the warehouse who told officers that people were being held hostage inside. That man was later identified as one of the suspects, police said.
Officers went in and found the hostages, including May.
Four people were arrested and charged with robbery, kidnapping and armed criminal action.
The defendants are identified as:
Brian K. Franklin, 20, from Grandview
Terrance L. Irvin, 23, from Grandview
Terrell L. Irvin, 23, from Grandview
Dustin R. Garwood, 36, from Blue Springs
Each man is being held on a $100,000 cash bond. They will be arraigned on Monday.
