That's probably why he joined Frank Zappa's band, because Zappa was the same way, most people still don't get his music.

Smoking reefer at a buddys place when I was seventeen. His father was a jazz musician who passed away a year or two prior.
Everytime we were at his place, we listened to this and Herbie Handcock.
In retrospect, I think that we enjoyed the music so much that we were ignorant of the significance it held for our friend.

This Record made me switch from deep purple and other rock bands to Fusion Jazz. I remember when i was 16 after my bands rehearsal at about 2 am in the morning they played the whole record in the radio... next day the whole band bougt the record... not one one.. each of us ! ;-)

I'm a "Fusion" freak...lol and this sound brings back such great memories of back in the 70's music. My older brother turned me on to all this when I was a very young teen or before. The creativity was so high and imaginative.

yeah, duke doesn't get enough credit but he was ahead of his time too. i remember listening to his feel album and being surprised that it was recorded in 73 and not later.
