The AKG is better in my opinion. The SM57 is getting long in the tooth now and even the AKG D5 is knocking it out.

i have an sm58 and find anything i do mid rangy. is that just my voice? i kinda want a bright tone... strange on a dictaphone i sound better!

he D770 had a bit more........for lack of a better word.......SOUL to it when you sang into it. The SM58 is a great mic and has the added advantage that most venues are EQ'd for it but the AKG had a bit more of a "produced" sound which sounded good with your voice. Especially with your style. :) Keep rockin'.

When you moved from mic to mic, the D770 had less breath noise without attenuating the high frequency, so score 1 for the D770. On the other hand, the frequency response on the SM58 was more balanced, with the D770 sounding a little boxy to me, so score 1 for the SM58. I think I prefer the SM58 overall.
