I have been looking into this area of healthcare. I worked as a medical assistant for 15 years, but got burnt out with it. A few graduates from schools in my area have told me it's not easy finding sterile processing jobs. One person has looked for over a year without success. He told me think about good before committing to it.
@chiquisbaby81 But surgeries are becoming less and less as you know. I am in the medical profession, and these jobs are hard to find. In the hospital where I work, the "same" OR techs have been there for years....and one sterile technician is close to 72 years old. He is good! So, man, let me tell you what is so up and coming!!!!! Science / Research......the one I work in is right in the bottom of the hospital....I make 17.20 an hour....plus I get overtime...I am pushing for manager
yep. how much so you want to bet, she did not take a college course in medical microbiology....if she did she would know that staph is in everybody's nose.
@chiquisbaby81 wow 2 yrs ago eh? Well hope u found a job if not... I am a surg tech by trade but have been working sterile processing for 3 months now. The dynamic is different and your attention to detail is very important. It helps you to remember instrumentation but thats about it. the main goal is to keep things moving so that instruments are able to dried and be processed.
noooo spd is easy if u learned anything in ur class it's fun juss finished externship recently juss need to get certified but no luck on finding a job that dsnt require certification juss laggin i gess =/ but surgical tech seems a bet more complex and u hav to deal w the DOCTOR! hahaha
I got hired as a Central processing trainee. They fired me after a week. Was that fair time to get the stock and computer end? I was told by one of the women in the department I was not given a fair chance.
hopefully i get an interview. i'll work anywhere...lol
but yeah, when i was working as a tech., i did a little sterile processing. so i kinda have an idea of what to do. also an uncle of mine worked as one for a while but moved up. i'm going to ask him about it too. thanx tripthewire...peace
Actually it us an excellent way to get back into it...you could work towards certification too...the salary is not too bad, if the hospital you work at has sort of a clinical ladder, plus it would get you back into the OR environment.
