Were the capsizes intentional for rescue practice or did something happen? I am always interested in why expert paddles capsize. I paddle Half Moon Bay as well, renting from HMB Kayak. I recognized that big round white ball on the bluffs overlooking Mavrick's. Been doing it for 2 years, so I consider myself an advanced novice. I am no longer petrified by the "tippiness" of a CD Sirocco

The capsizes were not intentional. What happened was that one of us was a little more rusty on the rolls than expected, and then the swim is not far away. As for frequency of capsizes - it's all about how far you push the envelope, especially in breaking waves and surf. I'd say expert paddlers most likely capsize more often than other paddlers. The big difference is that with a reliable roll, it really doesn't matter. -Anders

No I'm afraid not. It is taken off Half Moon Bay on the San Francisco peninsula in California. Anders
