  • it always annoys me when people who don't know any better dismiss lindisfarne as a novelty party act, which is total crap of course, they were much, much more than that.

  • great song, lindisfarne were a fantastic band, both thru the hull era and beyond. top video!

  • What a fantastic song. Classic Alan Hull. I don't know why this band are so criminally under rated.

  • I finally got a (reasonably priced!) copy of Alan Hulls "Statues & Liberties" CD which is where the original(?) version of this is from - the CD is fantastic, as is this song, as is this version!

I love Lindisfarne, and i love the "MK 2" Lindisfarne as much, "Happy Daze" is a fantastic album, which wears it's influences (The Band) well on it's sleeve and "Roll On Ruby" is SUCH an overlooked, and much maligned, classic album.

This is what YouTube needs, more Alan Hull, more Lindisfarne!

  • Thats right he doe's know music, the mans a genius writer [ i once met Costello and discussed Alan Hull and in particular Winter song off the nicely out of tune album, i suggested Elvis do a cover version and amazingly he did ].

  • Horace - Elvis Costello? AFAIK he married the Pogues´s singer/bassist right off the stage - there´s a man who knows music!

  • Its a shame they split the first time, I think they could have been a lot bigger and had a string of hits if they continued thoughout the seventy's, after all, in Alan Hull they had one of britains finest song writers [ ask Elvis Costello - he would agree, and check out his version of winter song on my channel ].

  • Lindisfarne a "novelty act"? Bugger me wellies, they clobbered teenie bands off the airwaves when I was young, and you don´t want to know how long ago that is.

  • Yes, they are quality, especially compared to much of the modern dross. I grew up with my old man playing them (along with Steeleye Span). Much of their contemporary music is also excellent.

  • Post more Lindisfarne!

    That's an order!!
