A workshop on Gov. Paul LePage's proposed cuts to Maine's welfare system was held 27 December 2011 in Fort Kent. The workshop was organized by the Aroostook Area Agency on Aging, intended to allow local residents to interact with their legislators, including Reps. Bernard Ayotte (R-Caswell), Peter Edgecomb (R-Caribou), John Martin (D-Eagle Lake), Ken Theriault (D-Madawaska), and Alex Willette (R-Mapleton). Chace Joe Jackson spoke for his father Sen. Troy Jackson (D-Aroostook), who was unable to attend.

Upon learning of the workshop, Gov. LePage decided to attend.
