Great car! The flathead V8 is under the hood, but this time it's paired with Fordomatic automatic transmission for the first time. This was made by Borg Warner for Ford until Ford could make their own units. Lincolns used Hydra Matics bought from General Motors. Automatic transmissions were becoming a "must have" in the American marketplace. Chevy had its Powerglide dating back as an option to the 1950 model. The upholstery is great on this car..and the contrasting "bows" in the roof are great!

  • Will not see a Ford engine under the hood when hot rodded.I have seen one with a 454 ChevyMost put in a Chevrolet engine since the Chevrolet is much more dependable. The Ford O Matic was a piece of junk which I was told.College where I went, the instructor for the automatic transmissions class said this

  • @wafrederick It is certainly true that Chevy engines are the choice of those who are intent on putting a new engine under the hood. Those original Fordomatics were made by Borg Warner, and I think they were adequate for the time and the engine...now if you put a big block Chevy under the hood, you'd want an transmission that could handle that upgrade. Thanks! :) Jack

  • gotta love these shoebox fords 1949-56 !

  • @wardawg07 Hey, Warren! They really were style leaders among the "low priced three"...and really saved Ford! Thanks! :) Jack

  • 49-51 Shoeboxes are great collector cars...you have a very nice one!

  • @MrHotrodder1964 Hey, Ray! As I've always commented, nothing like cars to bring back the memories! Things sure seemed simpler then...in every way. When a car broke down, there was the definite possibility that the owner might just get it back on the road! Thanks! :) Jack

  • 1951 Ford Victoria HT was my first car, loved it, had a ball getting it on the road. !963 was a great year, wish I could go back and do it all over again...

  • @rx6180 Hey, Mick! Yeah...at its introduction here, this was really a stunner...but much more radical stunning was to come! Fins were to set the tone, and this one has none...it has styling elements typical of WW2 bombers of the time, including that grillework! Thanks! :) Jack

  • I like seeing this kind of car. They seem to be seen far less frequently in Britain compared to the more extravagant late fifties or 1960s/70s American cars. Nice colour.
