We in Japan all respect and admire the political system of Britain and many people in it. I know some attempts did not work and not everyone is happy, but such is never possible.

In Japan, we have no conviction politician. They all care about votes too much. Politician s need to be statesmen at times, ie, tell people what they need, not what they want, even if it may be hard to bear.

If they care about votes too much, all governments will eventually be bankrupt.

  • @tnakai1971jp Hi Yes, it was 1993 at the same time of the release of her published memoirs. So should be viewed in the context of the 1992 general election win, Hesiltine not getting the PM,

  • When was this on air? 1993 perhaps?

  • Thatcher, changed the complete nature of British Politics- she was indeed a 'one woman revolution' ! :)

    Bless you Maggie!

  • @longlivejacko Cameron and his cabinet have all sold out on their beliefs. They all seem to support U-turns. "I'll cut the deficit, not the NHS". That's what his campaign posters read. What's he gone and done? Cut the NHS

  • @francesco0p He means to do with the Treaty of Versailles. It was a treaty set up after WW1 to ensure peace. He has a point, in the treaty Germany had legal, territorial and military restrictions to stop a repeat of WW1. Germany was nearly bankrupt at the time and they blamed it on the treaty, when Hilter came to power he slowly began to violate the terms of the treaty and the allies pretty much did nothing about it. We definitely took our eye off the ball.. big time.

  • @mrwevans But he was not a direct threat to Britain. Maggie's priorities were putting Britain first, and quite rightly in my opinion. Yes, his policies/regime were disagreeable at best, but the job of Western countries is not to parent less wealthy ones by telling them what to do.

No. Does Pinochet's failure to invade British territory make it ok to ignore his domestic torture, killings etc and actively thwart attempts to prosecute him? I fear that your question rather implies that it is. This is double standards from Maggie I'm afraid.

  • @mrwevans Did he invade British territory?
