Alan Hamel, Radio and Television Arts '54
Alan Hamel's first professional job was as a weekend announcer with CKVR-TV and CKBB Radio in Barrie in 1955. He would eventually log more than 3,000 hours of network television at CBC and CTV, from the popular 1960s children's show Razzle Dazzle, to late-night satire and everything in-between. Moving to California in 1967, he remained involved in Canadian television until 1980. He also partnered with Dick Clark to create a new television series. After meeting the actress Suzanne Somers in 1968, they became partners in life and in business. In 1988, they created the Thighmaster, the biggest selling fitness product in history. He is the founder, chairman and CEO of SLC Industries, which creates, manufactures and markets more than 1,000 products in 186 countries.
