Great interview! Not just Gene.. He was certainly asked the right questions! We need the upload of the full clinic!

I think its a misconception that metal musicians are hardcore and nasty. Im sure the majority of them are decent, down to earth people like he rest of us. Gene is one good example - he seems big and scary, but like most large people, they are gentle giants. Hes a fantastic musician and has been a drumming idol of mine since the 90s. His work on Death Individual Thought Patterns was phenominal. Love to meet him one day.

Gene Hoglan is such a metal guy and yet he has a heart of the nicest soul ever :) He inspires me SOOOO much on my drumming and I can just hope to be like him someday and share my techniques or whatever with new drummers who wanna give drumming a try. Him being nice just adds a plus to how awsome he is because he makes me not wanna give up unlike other drummers who are total bad asses behind the kit but they make you wanna just give up and they just show off >.> Gene Hoglan man you're awsome :DD

Gene looks skinnier. Is it just me?

@StevenJKlaszky If you haven't heard of gene, look up "Crystal Mountain", one of the best drum performances ever.

Lol 8:10 *scratch* *scratch* *scratch*. Fuckin' louder than Genes speech.

@StevenJKlaszky I dunno about that... it's really about how much spare time one has to put to spreading out ones aural dictionary lol Like going to the gym really, time in equals results/new territory etc The step from Yes/The Strawbs/Rush/Queen to Death or Old Man's Child is a scary step but once taken, you can look back and see all the steps were pointing that way anyway :-)

@LDP060681 Nope, I'm pretty sure I don't like metal - too loud, too chaotic for my melow spirit. However, I do like your attitude. Thanks for trying to change my mind. I like how you think. Steve
GREAT interview! I don't like this kind of music and never heard of Gene, but as a musician I can always appreciate talent in all its forms and this guy has it. Not only that, but he's articulate and in touch with how he got to where he is as a drummer. AWESOME! Thanks, Sweetwater. Wished I lived close enough to visit, but NJ is a bit too far of a commute. Keep up the great work!

I'm surprised how "conservative" his kit is. Half the size of most Metal drummers but he uses all of it. Gotta appreciate that he's a thinking musician. Which most metal heads are anyway but I'm sure it throws the pop and rap kids for a loop. No "yo" or other slang. Just straight up english. And, he expresses himself well. No need to try and interpret what he's saying. Articulate as was said before.
