There are many many black and white stuff with the origins of the moonwalk---way before those guys....Michael took it on another level, that's all.

I like the history in this clip; most of which I've already read. But is this doc trying to claim that MJ somehow was wrong in performing the move and not mentioning them? Fact#1: The "Backslide/Moonwalk" as this video shows, was around amongst black dancers way before the people speaking in the video. Fact#2 - MJ paid these dancers---cash. Fact#3 - MJ always said that young black kids from the ghetto taught him the move. Was he lying? These dancers should be proud, not bitter. That's showbiz!

@ConsciousFilmmaker You are correct that Casper was 1st, and I agree they all deserve their just due...

What a lot dancers fail to realize is that the dance called Struttin'( the precursor to Poppin') was being done in the bay around the same time as Lockin'. For some reason there is always a heavy emphasis on LA dance history but the dance structure was being created right here in Northern California mid sixties to mid seventies. I can't blame anybody though because the Strutters who did the dance, to this day choose to withhold information.

very cool
As someone who personally knows the parties involved... The Truth is that Geron or Caszper, Jeffery Daniel, and former Solid Gold dancer Cooley Jackson all taught Michael the moonwalk..I grew up with Cooley and Caszper and watched the whole thing unfold. When Casper says "Michael just loved US (The street guys)" He's talking about all three of them People usually give all the credit to Jeffery cause he's was well know. They all equally deserve credit..

@experiencemyke Thank you for your comment. You are correct... I don't dispute for a moment that Michael worked with all those dancers. They all deserve their due credit... However, there is no doubt that Caszper was the FIRST to introduce MJ to the Backslide aka Moonwalk. Both eyewitness collaboration, and documentation from that era, including cancelled checks and invoices from Caszper's manager for that training attest to this fact.

the question Oprah asked Michael was "where did the moonwalk come from?" NOT who taught you? he employed all these guys and gave credit when credit was due. he also said in that same interview that "they are the real dancers". michael is still a beast on the dance floor, dont get it twisted

@deyonce Great... I'd love to incorporate that footage in our doc.... It only goes to substantiate our premise... No one's getting anything twisted. And no one is taking cred away from MJ. What one has to ask, is how many people know how influential these street dancer's were in the development of pop culture? In most cases, it's only the dancers themselves who know. They were there. They saw what happened... Watch the doc, In the Shadows of Motown... there are a lot of parallels.

@blinddancer Geron Caszper Canidate was in fact the first dancer to teach Michael the Backslide or Moonwalk. Caszper's instructing Michael on the Moonwalk for the first time is not only corroborated by his peers, but also supported by documentation including the canceled check for his instruction, the original invoice from Caszper's management agency, and industry publications from that era.
