A picturesque trip along the line from Tunbridge Wells Central to Three Bridges, closed in 1967. Ex-London & South Western Railway M7 Class 0-4-4 tanks were at this time much in evidence on this former outpost of the rival London Brighton & South Coast railway, but ex South Eastern & Chatham Railway H Class 0-4-4Ts, a Maunsell N Class Mogul, a Standard 2-6-4Ts and even a dread BRCW Type 3 'Crompton' diesel (later TOPS class 33) are also seen.

  • @ipcress1066 You are correct, it is EG High Level. A train arriving into EGHL from Three Bridges, a train leaving for Three Bridges, and a train going round St Margarets Loop to the Low Level line to Victoria.

  • Beeching was a right bastard

  • jeeze, i use the car park which East Grinstead High Level station used to stand on. It's absolutely unbelievable seeing how it used to look in this video, compared to now. There's literally no trace of it whatsoever

  • Would like footage of the train passing Compasses crossing in Rowfant.Could anyone help?

  • SRF, brill film once again - probably my next line to follow. Can anyone confirm the following: 0:13 to 0:39 - where is that? Is that East Grinstead High Level? The tracks curving off to the right, is that the line down to East Grinstead Low-Level to Dormans? Presume the footage up to 1:34 is all East Grinstead? Lovely elm trees. Those totems are worth thousands now!

  • Have just purchased a video of this and love this old route, walk the worth way most days. brilliant clip this.

  • What a fantastic film - I used to walk this old line all the time in the 70s and 80s and am hoping to model the line next year. This is invaluable.

  • Wow, threebridges in crawley and area look very different!
