The Sustainable Northern Shelter Program is aimed at working with local communities to build affordable, culturally‐rooted, energy-efficient housing in rural Alaska villages by combining traditional home designs with modern homebuilding techniques. As part of the SNS program, CCHRC collaborates with the people of the community on the design of the home, to ensure the home is suitable to their lifestyle. Located in the central Brooks Range, the small community of Anaktuvuk Pass has a number of homes poorly constructed for the extreme climate, and a shortage of housing overall.

The Cold Climate Housing Research Center (CCHRC) is a non-profit dedicated to research that improves the durability, health, and affordability of shelter for people living in circumpolar regions around the globe. For more about us, visit www.cchrc.org.

  • @MrEvilronald : You're confusing corporatism with capitalism.

  • David Rockefeller: Unashamed Predatory Globalist

"Some even believe we (the Rockefeller family) are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as 'internationalists' and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure---one world, if you will. If that's the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it."

    --David Rockefeller, “Memoirs,” page 405

  • Yeah, coz' capitalism has been a roaring success hasn't it. The economy is in the mess it is because of our unregulated greed and super banking system!. Im no supporter of socialism btw, but the idea that capitalism is the saviour and we need to start making money, money, money! is pretty much what screwed us up in the first place. Yet we never see this, or refuse to, as money talks right?, so no doubt we will willingly walk into the same trap again

  • I don't understand it. You claim on the video that there are no roads in and out, no rivers in or out and no resourses around. It seems that any intelligent being would come to the realization that you need to move. Without these things you can NEVER succeed at achieving dreams. You are just draining the system and creating a burden on the economy. . .is there any wonder the economy is bad? Move to a place WITH resources and jobs and contribute to the economy. Socialism NEVER WORKS !

  • i like it but i wouldve changed it up a bit so i could put like half of the home under ground but im not sure if that would work out to well seeing as how much of Alaska is permafrost

  • nice....I wonder about the economic feasibility though- especially when I see solar panels. If were talking about low income rural folks in hard to reach environments Im not encouraged when I see spray on insualation and solar panels.

  • It's a commercial.

  • Interesting. Looks like and Adobe style outside, which has great insulation value. Can't get it where I live, where it's the best al around style of house, because the construction companies managed to control the city council and make it illegal.

  • The people that lived there back when, didnt have to deal with debt, fiat money, inflation or a housing bubble as they do today,.... thats the whole point.

  • @StSimonMartyr The people that lived there for thousands of years never know what "debt" was either, so I need to study what?
