"The Worms" on Gong Show 1978

Last of several appearances on the original Gong Show. This episode was the second to last episode. There were a few returning acts and a few acts being rated. Since the rated acts all got gonged, there was no winner. The worms appeared 10 times on the original show, and made an encore performance 10 years later on the New Gong Show hosted by Don Blue.

before the worms, there was an act on the gong show that did a cover of the beatles' "octopus' garden." a sea captain did a spoken word rendition of the song, then a couple of guys in scuba outfits dropped to the floor and began flailing about. they got gonged. then a few months later 'the worm" debuted. i've always figured that "the worm" was a rip-off of that earlier act.

The Gong Show will never be duplicated. It was perfect in its era but trying to redo this show in todays times is useless-it just doesn't work. It was original and that only happens once.

The Gong Show ruled with Chuck Barris at the helm. The de-Barrisment of The Gong Show was its embarrisment. Went downhill sense. The Worm was funny as heck along with other Barris era Gong Show acts.
