Reducing nuclear stockpiles may be the current trend in global politics, this wasn't always the case. There was a time when the United States and the Soviet Union were poised to do anything to gain the upper hand in a nuclear war - even if that hand was dead.

    Russia you so old.

  • YOU KNOW NOTHING OF THE HORRORS OF DEAD HAND! D:<

  • russia owns

  • If a truly automated system was built, one beyond the control of anybody even its creators, it would be safer since the human is removed; it would render the concept of a nuclear war obsolete. Actually with the right trigger it could make war itself obsolete.

It a shame that such system was never implemented. It would be a turning point to the whole humanity.

  • mein fuhrer! ...i can walk!!!

  • Well, at least that rules out the chances of a "First Stike" against the Soviet Union and will at least if it makes people feel more secure it could be for the better. Some day maybe nuclear weapons will be done away with. Conventional war is very expensive and unsustainable. Unfortunately, I think mankind will go away before war will.

  • @fludblud

we are even not irak. usa will fuck up if these assholes attack us.

  • I love the idea of doomsday machines lol.

    So futile and foolish....

    So insane...

So complete beyond normal common sence its actualy funny.

    just a big joke

  • In reality dead hand never worked in full auto. There were three commanders in deep bunker below Moscow, who in case of destruction of central command in Kremlin or when dead hand turned on should have decided whether to retaliate in voting. Unless it was recently set in full auto it hadn't worked in automatic sequence.

  • Seems to me that the inventors of Perimetr have forgotten about the possibility, that people like the djihadis (or other deluded religious assholes) would use the existence of a doomsday machine to wipe the human race from the planet. The creation of a doomsday machine illustrates how wrong people can be about the brain content of others.
