Pendleton, Indiana - At the Smith Family Farms in Pendleton a very special, annual event, took place and a treat for everyone that came out. The Gasparovic Family, from Pendleton, made Apple Butter over an open fire at the Smith Family Farms.
Butters made with fruit is said to be have introduced by the Germans. Apple Butter is generally written about as being a food that is primarily associated with the Appalachian region of the United States.
The preparation for the Apple Butter at Smith Family Farms, made by the Gasparovics, beginning the evening before, with the making of home made apple sauce and gathering all the other ingredients. Then Saturday, after 5 hours of cooking over the open fire, the Apple Butter was ready for all to enjoy.
