I love how everyone is an "expert" on Doug Henning and his illusions. LOL - Want to know some facts about Doug Henning and his unique brand of magic?
I suggest reading "Spellbound - The Wonder-Filled Life Of Doug Henning", written by John Harrison (a friend of mine). He did a GREAT JOB detailing Doug's life. It also has some GREAT TRUE STORIES about the "behind-the-scenes" magic as well! Do a search, you'll be glad you did. - Makes a great gift, too!
The Million Dollar Mystery is how the tiger was produced, but the idea on producing three bumps under the cloth comes from Servias Leroy called the Three Graces. He used a tall cabinet with a pole in the center. A far cry from the large rainbow box Doug used.
Doug was good at using classics from the past and putting his own spin on it. I too saw this live and it was spectacular.
Actually everyone is wrong and correct on who invented this. Thurston didn't invent the Million Dollar Mystery. It was designed for him by his staff based on a P.T. Selbit idea. Thurston, just like every magician like Doug and Copperfield, used an illusion team to come up with and build all of the tricks for the upcoming season.
Actually this Illusion was invented my Howard Thurston... MANY years before Doug Henning, It was originally called Thurston's Million Dollar Mystery... :-)

I sa Doug perform this in Detroit also. I seen his act live twice he was GREAT. I also loved his live TV shows, that takes some guts.
