In Memory of Thomas Doerflein and Brown Bear Bernie

In memory of Thomas Doerflein who died two years ago on 22 September 2008, and of Brown Bear Bernie who died in December 2009. These were very touching scenes from March 2008. Because of his arthritis Bernie could not get up the steps in his enclosure to go to the inner cages. Thomas Doerflein tried to lure him upstairs, one day with fishes, the other day with a rooster. He had great patience but Bernie could not get up. Of course nevertheless he got the yummy food...

I got it now.. knut died for cronic depresion two years after thomas died... there was nobody like him with knut.. RIP the wonderfull bearman..

Awww. Sweet. I don't know the story about this bear, but Thomas was a wonderful, caring person to be able to love these animals and gain their trust and respest. What a great tribute to him. Obviously, this was more than a job for him; it was a calling.
