Part 2 of 2

Hey fellow Vue owners!

I figured I'd give you guys the heads up and the skinny on the situation.

If you have always wanted to setup your iPhone/iPod with your Vue so you can:

Charge it while in use
Control it with the radio/steering wheel controls
Have great sound quality
Not have to always use the AUX port cause the lingering cable is unattractive

and

Have a nice mount with a good viewing angle

This is the video for you. I will show you how to get all this together and easily installed YOURSELF for about $200! Going to a car audio store will cost you twice as much! I've done my research. Plus, you'll have the added honer of a do-it-yourself project you'll use every time you're behind the wheel.

Tools you'll need:

Phillips-Head Screw Driver (the longer the stem, the better)
Flat-Head Screw Driver (not so long, but not short either)
Angle Cutters (Wire Cutters)
Needle-Nose Pliers
Zip Ties

Shopping List:

iSimple - Apple® iPod® Direct Connect Kit for Select GM Vehicles (ISGM74)
also known as the Peripheral Electronics PXAMG iPod Interface
Peripheral Electronics PODCBLBM-5v 3G iPhone Charging Cable
Bracketron Mobile Electronics iPod Docking Kit (Vent Mounting Solution)
Bracketron Mobile Electronics Satellite Radio Dash Mount (Pro-Series 45mm)

All of these items, except for the 3G iPhone Charging Cable can be found at Best Buy. You may be able to find them online for a few bucks cheaper, but having the security of being able to return the products if defective is better if you go to Best Buy. Besides, at the time of writing this thread, Best Buy is the best bargain. The cable can be found on DiscountCarStereo.com or by searching Google or eBay.

Make sure the Satellite Radio Mount is the 45mm kind. Otherwise, the mount will not be long enough. The iSimple Kit must be the ISGM74 version so it will come with all the necessary cables and such for your 2008/2009 Vue.

You can research more info on the PXAMG Interface but believe me when I tell you it works WONDERFULLY!

This video will show you how to install each device giving you complete integration with the factory radio including a mount to hold your iPod/iPhone in place.

  • According to crutchfield there's some $100 adapter I'd need just to make the door/warning chimes play through the stereo system as they do stock currently with an aftermarket radio. Ultimately I had no problems at all removing the necessary parts to get to these areas thanks to your clear and informative video. I'll look into the media gateway now. Seems like a very cost effective solution for now. =D

  • Hope it all works out for you. It's a very easy install. I did it myself with no professional help. And I'm no mechanic. Keep in mind when you go to plug the cables for the media gateway to the radio unit you do no have to take the radio out. I was able to plug them in by "feeling it out". They only go in one way and in one place so it's kind of hard to screw up.

  • I had something similar that bestbuy used when installing an alpine CDA-9886 in my 1999 SL. I was wondering if this would work similarly in the vue or if it lacks the proper "stuff" to interface with the GM radio vs. the alpine. Also I didn't see a point in which you connected the media gateway with the radio itself..where does the cable go? I'm assuming its a single connect. Thanks!

  • I did not show the connecting to the radio part because if Peripheral Electronics released a new version, then the video would be outdated. So instead, you'll here me say to "follow the included instructions" or something to that effect. There are basically two cables. One that goes in-between the stock cable for power and the radio and also connects to the aux/sat port on the back of the unit, then to the device itself. And the other cable goes to the iPod/iPhone.

  • It interfaces with the stock GM radio just fine. You can control to playback from the steering controls as well as the radio itself. Choose playlists, genres, artists, albums etc. Granted it not as easy to do as I hoped but it works. I have an iPhone 3GS so i just use the voice commands to choose the music I want because it's easier.

  • just one question... why does the display on your radio flicker like that and did it do it before you put the interface in

  • Thanks for the video, does this work with iPhone video? when you watch a video from the iPhone does the audio play through the speakers in the car.

  • I like your warning at the end ha ha

do it at your own risk

  • fucking sound gay

  • I dont own a Saturn Vue but I'm sure if I did this video would've helped me out a lot. Nice one!

  • How similar is the 08/09 stereo to the 07?

I've been looking forever for something like this... but I have an '07... :/

    Any Idea?

  • Sorry..I asked a stupid question. lol After tooling around with the materials I had from my old car installation I see that there's no actual interfacing ''box'' similar to the ''media gateway'' that was used. It appears everything required to play my ipod through my old system was integrated into the alpine unit. For some reason I pictured a box. I'd love to have the alpine unit in my vue but I'm assuming a bestbuy installation would cost hundreds. Regardless your video was great.
