  • Retort Butter!!!

  • Another great idea is to retort water for emergency water packets.

  • I think that's great idea. I was looking for some methods to retort veg. juices. (like Capri sun juices). What machine would you recommend? Would regular sealing bags work as well? or does it have to be retort pouches in order to have it shelf stable?

  • @jhnk1017 Love the Sammic line of vacuum sealers. They come retort ready with superior components to any other brand. Take a look at the Sammic 306 sweet unit, very resonable price, fully loaded with the largest chamber available using the same foot print as the Minipack line. If it does not fit the budget the MVS 26x or 31x are also good home units a bit less expensive. Much smaller chambers in the same foot print but decent quality. Avoid VacMaster's VP10 and VP15 to many failed bags.

  • thank you , what is the shelf life of vacuum bag meats

  • @tracycolorado Hi Thank you for the question. The Military MRE where retort canning was created states 7 years plus and they are rotated well before that date. The Sunkist Tuna pack in supermarkets 3 plus years. And again rotation is the key to fresh long term storage. Like any home canning of wet meats rotate each year to keep fresh nutritions foods available. If you are retorting canning dehydrated or freeze dry foods 20 plus years is good as long as the bag does not sustain damage.

  • Great info. Figured this process mite be commercial only. Glad to know it is availible.

Can a Food saver brand be used to seal the bag?
