Solar hot water panels come in two types. http://www.yougen.co.uk asks whether flat plate or evacuated tubes are best. Gabriel Wondrausch of SunGift Solar gives us the low down.

  • Its all about the ambient temp and inlet temp..has nothing to do with you are saying. The correct answer is to plot it on a chart and see which one is more efficient. For domestic water heating the flat plate will be more efficient.

  • Do they pay you to say this stuff? LOL. ETCs break in hail and lose their vacuums. They last 2-15 years, whereas FPCs last 30-100 years. That ought to settle it right there, but just in case some silly person out there is still worried about performance, FPCs outperform ETCs up to 120 deg F (67 deg C)... ABOVE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE!!! That means if it's 32F (0C) outside, FPCs will STILL outperform ETCs up to a temperature of 152F (67C.)

  • can you heat a room with evacuated tubes?
