From KETC, LIVING ST. LOUIS Producer Patrick Murphy takes a nostalgic look at North St. Louis County during the 1950s - 1970s era with the authors of the book Cruizin North County, Bill Kasalko and Craig Kaintz. They visit the sites of old landmarks—some still around, some long gone—and stop in at Chuck-A-Burger, and popular joint for teens to take their cars to hang out while cruizin.

  • @fennwick5 You are exaggerating. The bluff neighborhoods look fine.

  • @rgyngard Olivette is already showing signs of decay. America doesn't know yet how to keep up older areas of towns. We'd rather just build new every 20 years. We should look at Europe and see how they care for cities that are hundreds of years old.

  • I hiked up the Chain of Rocks bluff roads with my dogs and took a ride down Lookaway in my car last summer. You are exaggerating the demise of the area by a great deal. The houses are cared for and just because most the residents are Black doesn't mean it's low income OR dangerous. Your comments are extremely racist.

If you want to see some bad areas of town then take the 90 bus south through MLK and Goodfellow. Even so most everyone is just regular Americans trying to survive.

  • Like most of St. Louis, good turns bad in time. Cities of beauty are destroyed by poverty, it will never be a place of harmony and safety. Whats next West county?

  • It is really sad for the beautiful homes on Lookaway Drive that led up to the park. We too loved Chain of Rocks, but also have heard it is terrible up there now. Went back to my old neighborhood here recently, off Bellefountaine near 270...good grief, the cashier was in a caged area, who knew it had changed so much?

  • The joke here is, now there is public housing in place of Chain of Rocks Park.

They had to block off all of the entrances up into Chain of Rocks from Riverview because there was too many city pick-up and "deliveries" going in and out that way.

It use to be a good family area...... just like Walnut Park use to be...... etc... etc.... etc.....

  • I grew up in Glasgow Village near Chain of Rocks Park. I'd like to go back there to reminise, but I've heard I have to hire Blackwater Security to get me in and out safely.

  • north county is the hood ---grams of raw all day---

  • south county is so much better

  • I sure miss cruising north county back in my high school days. Too bad there isn't more pics of Holiday Hill. I worked there at the baseball cages & archery range the last few years it was open. If anyone has memorabilia or photo's from Holiday hill or Chain of Rocks, please contact me.
