Remembering Beverly Park through home movie footage and personal accounts in this excerpt from "Things That Aren't Here Anymore" on PBS.

The former amusement park at the corner of Beverly and La Cienega (now the site of the Beverly Center shopping plaza) was a weekend favorite of Los Angeles locals from 1945-1974. It meant an awful lot to a lot of people; and many of us have fond memories of birthday parties and family afternoons spent at the old place.

  • Great footage from here in "A Guide for the Married Man" (1967).

  • My best friend and I worked at the ponyride mentioned in this video back in the early 70's, junior high & high school. We loved it! I can still remember all the ponies' names, and the Stars who brought their children there for an afternoon of sweet childhood memories. It was a great little Beverly Hills Secret !

  • this made me cry

  • SOLID memories of the ponies...!

  • Thank you soooooooo much for the great memoirs..I worked the pony ride next door for years.

And being her STUCK in texas it sure helps to see home........

    THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • Ralph Story had a simple delivery that was so effective. He did so much by letting the story take center stage. ...that was the secrit of Ralph Story!

  • Hey thanks so much for sharing. I cried like I had lost a family member when they closed it down. I loved the bumper cars and remember they had a tennis ball hanging down on a chain to check your height to go on it alone. And the ponys too. I remember how I loved giving a cube of sugar to those horses still in their stalls. The Beverly Center was and is still a curse. An ugly piece of concrete, plastic and steel blotting out the sun. Thanks Again fellow Beverlander.

  • Oh wow I thought I had a pony of my own there! I was great!

  • Boy I loved Beverly Park! Those damn Barrels that used to fall at the train car... I loved those!

  • Boy I loved Beverly Park!
