5D still has some huge issues such as moire, limited color space (4:2:0), horrible video encoding and rolling shutter. So it doesn't really compete with other cameras for digital cinematography, such as Red One or Arri Alexa, but still it's a great tool foor indie film making.

@ldezem ...and to be able to buy a 35mm digital video camera with changeable lenses for about 2200 euros is really a bargain. Of course film-makers (like the people who shot this movie right here) have attached accessories to make the camera more usable. These include follow focus, shoulder mounts, better screen for viewfinder, better microphones (built-in mics in 5D Mark 2 really suck) etc. Anyway, it's small, cheap and makes beautiful video.

@ldezem It is both. Canon 5D Mark 2 is a still DSLR camera and a successor of 5D which didn't have a video function. Anyway, adding a Full HD video recording to a full-frame DSLR gives the camera a sensor size of 35mm which is a HUGE sensor for a digital video camera. The device and especially the controls are still designed for still photography, but as the image quality is phenomenal, film makers started using 5D Mark 2 as a video camera as well. They shot House M.D. with it as well.
