I have just found out from Tascam's website that the lates firmware allows independent L/R level adjustment for the EXT inputs and a couple of other improvements. Great!

Amazing video Guy, thanks for this. I am hesitating between the Zoom H2N and the Tascam DR-40. I like the multiple mike configurations of the Zoom H2N but I somehow feel that the DR-40 is a more professional unit. I want to try making outdoor videos of myself playing the guitar and singing, using the internal mikes and maybe plugging in my acoustic to the line input. The mid-side mode of the Zoom seems nice for this purpose but the connectors are better suited on the Tascam. What do you think?

This is one of the best product tests for any product I've ever seen. I like how you used the green screen to show us exactly what was happening on the recorder. I love the fact you showed a number of external microphone applications so if someone was looking for a specific type of mic then they can find it. This made my purchase way ever. Thank you good sir. Awesome video.
Why does it say wav 16? I like it though would be great with condensor combo.

@hotboyme Thanks for your comment, the mode we recorded in is 16 Bit 48k wav. You have the option of going up to 24 Bit 96k. You can also record MP3 compressed files at 32kbps, 64kbps 96, 128,192,256,320 as well as BWF 16bit and 24 bit.

Could you confirm that the recording hasn't been modified and there is no noise from the internal microphones? I bought a Samson C01U plug and play which was noisy and don't want to make the same mistake again. Cheers Tim

@timawells Thanks for asking. The audio file is as is from the recorder- completely untouched. This is the actual audio that you will get with the DR-40 and the microphones tested.

thanks for the vid.
i was wondering if its possible to actually record both the internal stereo mic aswell as both of the external channels at the same time? (essentially 4 unique mono tracks, true 4track recording)
thanks in advance

@tividor Yes, you can record to the Internal mics as well as the XLR inputs at the same time. Simply change the REC MODE to 4 channel. It's 4 unique tracks inside 2 separate, Two Track files.
