Notice it says "an" ultimate OCD demo, not "the" ultimate OCD demo. :p I don't think anyone has done a OCD feeding into an Ultimate Octave demo so I figured I would give it a try. Amp is my Genz Benz Black Pearl 30 on the pentode, two output tube setting (15W) with boost turned off. I hope you enjoy it. The riff there is just laying down a finger across the 7th fret for a D major (5th string is the root) and doing a minor 7 shape for the IV chord or G in the case D being the I. Then moving down a whole step to C (I) and F (IV).

Video footage during the demo song features one of my brothers playing bass with his band at their first gig. The acoustic is in standard tuning to contrast the open G tuning of the G&L S-500. The OCD is the clean sounding arpeggio type riffing. The OCD into the Ultimate Octave with just fuzz is the background chorus track, and the outro lead is just the Ultimate Octave without the OCD through a Seymour Duncan Jazz neck pickup.

I got the Jescar EVO fretwire from Luthiers Mercantile International and the Deadblow Fretting Hammer and Fret Cutter from Stew-Mac. Also shown is a Fret End Dressing File, Fret Rocker, and Understring Radius Gauges which are much more accurate than my cardboard, homemade radius gauges which I promptly tossed out. :p The Jescar gold EVO fretwire is used on the production Gibson Les Paul Supreme!

What is great about being able to do refrets is that it opens up all kinds of opportunities when it comes to buying guitars that need new homes that you might find on ebay or in the classifieds. Don't tell the seller of the guitar you know how to do refrets though!

  • I like the OCD pedal. I don't like the ultimate octave.

  • How's that Jescar EVO working out for you, what size did you get?

  • I already have the ocd(for me its the greatest overdrive ever and i had a lot but this is the one for me ) and now its time for the ultimate octave

  • The OCD kinda looses some charm when applied to the higher gain stage of an amp. I appreciate the cleaner, rich, harmonic, warm huge-ness...lower gain settings...in fact, gain down all, volume up 100%, on the OCD, works wonders for me. You can crank this baby too, with beautiful results. My amazement seems to be boundless when it comes to messing with this pedal, new harmonic qualities to explore daily...."wow, that sounds AAAAWWWWWWSOME." (band mates standing around amp, smiling, nodding)

  • ocd Version 1.. top notch..

  • open d is a great tuning also. bought a tele for that tuning.

  • I love this man! Not a fan of the ultimate octave though. OCD's are good.

  • cool tune, man! You should play at 2Boots Bridgeport some night.

  • Nice

    ★★★★★

  • The octaver gadget has a very nice, dirty sound. Perfect for making heavy metal sound even heavier. :)

Golden fret wire is a great choise for an accoustic. Produces a richer, warmer tone than stainless.

Good luck with the future refretting job!
