This Albert Hammond("Free Electric Band") song was recorded at Duane Eddys' studio in L.A. just before the Everlys split up for 10yrs.It was the no1 track on Phils' 1st solo album "Star Spangled Springer" which will be available after 30+ yrs on CD this month(February-2012)--about bloody time! The album also features the beautiful "Snowflake Bombadier" which is signed off by Duanes' guitar work.Excellant posting! Many thanks!

Beautiful version. At the very end it sounds as if he's saying goodbye to his loved one. "peace came upon me & it leaves me weak" he's at peace cos she's no longer suffering, weak cos he has to face life without her. "sleep, silent angel go to sleep..." he tells her as she closes her eyes for the last time before passing away.

So much better than the Hollies version, so subtle.

@justmusicandme - I agree; best lead vocal I ever heard on this song.
This is actually Phil Everly, singing both parts. It is the original version, before the Hollies recorded it. Thanks so much for posting. It is an incredible version of the song, just beautiful!! 5 stars.

This is one of my absolute favorites of Phil's solos. I think it is heavenly and I can listen to it multiple times in a row. Thank you for the post!
