This is a video I made demonstrating an idea I had cut cutting hand holds into planks used to build supers (wooden hive ware for honey bees). I also demonstrate a few of the abilities of the Craftsman Radial Arm saw built in the 60's
The forum I'm referring to is here http://www.beesource.com/
this forum has lots of useful information from beginners all the way up to thousands of hive commercial keepers.
Including plans for frames, supers SBBs and inner covers etc.

  • Nice work. Which forum were you referring to? I am going to start beekeeping this month and if I can learn a bit from others before I waste a lot of money that would be best. Thanks.

  • It wouldn't let me post the link in the comments, but I placed it in the description, it is a very useful forum. It has information for any beekeeper!

Check them out, a very helpful and friendly bunch including myself!

  • Thanks for that. I was going to do a Langstroth hive (and will do a couple more than likely) but I think those Top Bar Hives are more interesting. I appreciate the information.

  • If you curious, and wanting to learn etc, the TBH will allow more visibility etc, but they will not produce nearly as much honey, and they tend to not over winter as well. thats my two cents.

  • I have done hand holds with the dado blade on my Unisaw before. What I usually do though is screw a 1.5" wide piece and 5" or so long of oak or some scrap I have around to the sides and those make excellent hand holds. Then you are using the palm of your hands to lift the supers rather then your finger tips.

  • True, i'm internally torn on what I need to do, I'll probably never need to stack so many on a trailer that I'll need the extra room afforded by inlay cuts. But I could save the waste cuts for other projects ect. Our winters are not cold enough to be harmedful to a hive with inlay cuts and inlay cuts would allow me to save my waste cuts for shelving and other projects.
