Sensei Tomoji Miyamoto does a beautiful Bassai Dai kata, in presence of Master Shigeru Egami. From the early 70's. Example of Shoto-kai's peculiar relaxed Karate Do style.

  • Power, if it exists, I don't think it would be visible... and if its visible, it's because the person is using it to make faces, stopping the movement (snaps - wasting the energy) or tensing his/her body (waste too).

  • It is just that I had not seen it done this way before. It seems like it would be hard to generate power with these movements though.

  • @Ronin6575 Is it not that Bassai dai is meant to be a freely flowing kata, with constant movement rather that the continual stop-starting of other styles?

  • It is indeed, different. Doesn't seem very rooted as do the JKA versions.

Also, I do not see much in focusing the blocks and strikes. Does anyone know why these are so different?

  • it´s the first time i see a kata from these style. It´s beautifull but looks very diferent to the other styles, like a mix of shtokan and taijiquan. I hope to see an aplication or a figth from these style
