Thousands of people began gathering around the Battle Green in Lexington at 4:30 a.m. Monday for the reenactment of the battle there 235 years ago and the start of the American Revolution on April 19, 1775. The temperature was 39 degrees, but the crowd barely noticed until after the annual reenactment. Some spectators said they had traveled from Rhode Island and gotten up at 2 a.m. to be there.
