This version, heavily overdubbed by the Fireballs in 1962/63, was a top ten hit in England, spurring rumours that Buddy was actually alive and recording in secret. Even though this was a "successful" use of overdubbing, everyone should seek out the original un-doctored track from 1956, very cool in it's own right.

If it wasn't for Buddy Holly, there would be no Beatles.

Oh Buddy, why did you get on that damn plane?.....

@JAGibson3 You're absolutely right: From wikipedia: "Buddy Holly on vocals/guitar and Jerry Allison on drums recorded "Bo Diddley" at one of their earliest sessions with producer/engineer Norman Petty at his recording studio in Clovis, New Mexico sometime in 1956. In 1962 Norman Petty overdubbed the demo of "Bo Diddley", as well as others, with the Fireballs"

Two early rock genius' Bo and Buddy - there's another collaboration that would've been wonderful had Buddy lived. This may have been released in 1963, but it most likely was recorded around 1957.

That's actually George Tomsco of the Fireballs on guitar. Holly's own guitar is pretty much drowned out by the overdub.

it makes me so sad to know that a wonderfull person with a innocense vibe, died in a very brutal an horrific death, he doesnt deserve that

@bladesmark1 but still it was made in the 50's so it shouldnt be 63'

How can something recorded 55 years ago sound so fresh & vibrant? It sounds better than most music of the past 10 years (and this isn't some old rock & roller talking, I love many different styles of music)

@RetroCool73 Maybe because Buddy Holly always was looking for something new. Then try to reproduce and record it. He loved recording-techniques.

I'm pretty sure Buddy Holly re-did this song in '57.. I'm pretty sure his plane crashed in '59..
