UPDATE: This video was entered in to Round 7 of the VeritasAwards and won:
- Best AU - 1st Place
- Best Crossover - 2nd Place
There were so many excellent videos out there in this round since Kerry didn't put a cap on it, so the competition was super-stiff. So I'm extra pleased. :)
Okay, so this might be complicated. You have been forewarned.
This is my first entry for fadetonoir's monthly contest, and it's a trailer for a hypothetical book seven that I made up in my head. The premise would never happen in JKR-land, but that's why it's called fan fiction.
Anyway, as many of you already know, I have a weird obsession with VWI and the Members of the Order who we don't really know anything about because they're dead. Well, in my Harry Potter land (again, different from JKR's...Draco is much more of a foil for Harry in Paula-land) the Death Eaters didn't just randomly kill people. They killed them for significant reasons. Marlene McKinnon was, at the time of her death, working on a protective spell that could have turned the tide of the war. When she was killed, however, the Order was left with her notebooks, which were written in a bizzare, crack code that would take a Champollion-style language genius to figure out.
Present day: The war is up in the air, and both the Death Eaters and the Order have determined that it is necessary to translate the notebooks. Only problem is that the code is so complex and elaborate - also magical - that only Marlene's daughter, who has the same gift for language, can even hope to translate it. So both the Death Eaters and the Order go looking for Marlene's daughter who, after her mother's death, was squired away somewhere on the Continent where she couldn't be found.
That's the real backstory. Well, in my head, this is just a sub-plot to the greater, on-going Harry-must-defeat-Lord-Voldemort story, so in the trailer, I've simply incorporated elements of my idea in to a general Book 7 concept.
Things to note: Ron/Hermione, Ginny/Harry, OFC/OMC ('cause I like a little forbidden lust), and Marlene/Gideon Prewett ('cause Christian Bale is oh-so-dishy and I couldn't resist using him). Plus, he's in my fan fiction to this, so what the hell, right?
Music: "Karaoke Soul" by Tom McRae, "Don't Be So Cold" by Stabilo, "The Dam at Otter Creek" by Live, and "Karaoke Soul" again.
Footage: "Harry Potter" 2-4, "Little Women" (thanks again, Anna!), "Dot the I", and one brief little moment from "Scotland PA".
Cast:
Harry Potter.......Daniel Radcliff
Ginny Weasley......Bonnie Wright
Ron Weasley........Rupert Grint
Hermione Granger...Emma Watson
Marlene McKinnon...Winona Ryder
Gideon Prewett.....Christian Bale
Portia McKinnon....Natalie Verbenke
Julian Matthews....Gael Garcia Bernal

thank you for your constructive crticism. comments like yours actually make my day because they are so delightfully hateful and pointless that they create a wonderful feeling of superiority that lasts for hours. have a nice day!

Well the single notes during the WB logo are the opening bars to "Karaoke Soul" by Tom McRae. The first loud song is "Don't be so Cold" by a band called Stabilo. Glad you liked the vid!
