Helping to raise funds for the X PRIZE Foundation, Avatar Producer/Director, James Cameron, will participate as the honored guest aboard an extraordinary ZERO-G Experience™ taking off from Van Nuys Airport (VNY) in Los Angeles, California on Saturday, October 9, 2010. Additional X PRIZE Board Members and special guests have purchased seats to participate in this special event. The auction for this once-in-a-lifetime adventure will begin Tuesday, August 31, 2010 and end Friday, September 3, 2010.

The weightless flight will take place aboard G-FORCE ONE, a specially modified, FAA-approved, Boeing 727-200 aircraft. The flight is identical to those used by NASA to train its astronauts. This unique journey offers guests the chance to fly like Superman and flip like an Olympic gymnast. It's not simulated; ZERO-G replicates the same levels of gravity on Mars (1/3-gravity), the Moon (1/6-gravity), and zero gravity. Martha Stewart, Ozzy Osbourne and Stephen Hawking are just a few notable passengers who have flown with ZERO-G and proclaimed it to be one of the most thrilling experiences of their lives.

"We have many high-profile individuals joining this flight including Jim Gianopulos, Chairman/CEO of Fox Films and Tim Ferriss, best-selling author of 'The 4-Hour Workweek'," said Peter H. Diamandis, Chairman & CEO of the X PRIZE Foundation. "All proceeds from this eBay auction will go to the X PRIZE Foundation to help design future prizes intended to drive radical breakthroughs for the benefit of humanity."

ZERO-G is the first and only FAA-approved provider of commercial weightless flights for the general public. The ZERO-G Experience™ launched in October 2004 and has since successfully flown more than 6,000 passengers aboard 250-plus flights. Headquartered in Vienna, Va., ZERO-G is co-founded by X PRIZE Chairman Peter Diamandis; veteran astronaut, Byron Lichtenberg, and NASA Engineer Ray Cronise. In 2008, ZERO-G was acquired by Space Adventures, Ltd., the first and only company to have launched privately-funded individuals to space.

The X PRIZE Foundation is an educational nonprofit prize institute whose mission is to create radical breakthroughs for the benefit of humanity. In 2004, the Foundation captured world headlines when Burt Rutan, backed by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, built and flew the world's first private vehicle to space to win the $10 million Ansari X PRIZE. The Foundation has since launched the $10 million Archon X PRIZE for Genomics, the $30 million Google Lunar X PRIZE, and the $10 million Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE. The Foundation is creating and conducting competitions in four prize groups: Exploration (Space and Oceans), Life Sciences, Energy & Environment, and Education & Global Development. The Foundation is widely recognized as the leader in fostering innovation through competition.
