how do i know which capstan belt to buy? By the way mine is not this model, its an old webcor reel to reel. I need a fan belt for the same part but im not to sure which one to buy, is it like a standard size thing, or does each model have there own size?

@joshmolina3 there are different sizes for each model. any reel to reel parts store will be able to hook u up with the make and model number.

Thanks for uploading this. Anyone any ideas why the right spool on My Tascam 34B has stopped turning ? (Left one still turns) everything else fine on it. ?

sincere thanks gwamba, especially the tip about the pitch control retainer on the model 38. Saved me from breaking the top panel. I now have to find the belt, I'm in the UK. btw like you I hate the abusive stuff some people post. They take advantage of web anonymity and poison the whole thing. Low IQ? I don't know. If anybody has an Ampex 750 reel to reel I would appreciate some info on the drive belts. I bought a new pair of belts from Ebay but I can't figure out how to install them. Disassembly/reassembly isn't the problem. That's the easy part. After 37 years in storage the old belts disintegrated and I can't tell how they were wound around the various hubs and wheels. Sure wish I had a picture, but a verbal discription would do.

Hey I just got a Tascam 38, and when I first bought the thing it was firing up and spinning and everything and before i could even try recording something, suddenly it stopped spinning, no rewind play, nothing. At the same time this happened the LED's for the channel selectors stopped lighting up when i select a channel. I opened it up and yes the belt is fucked, it was all tangled and loose, so i ordered a new one, but does that explain the led's going out as well? Any ideas??
