This is Jimmy MacCarthy's first single released by Mulligan Records in 1981. To my knowledge it has never been re-released or included on any of Jimmy's albums of compilations (or covered). He has played it live regularly. I heard it live at the Olympia Theater in Dublin in 1991/92. He introduced it as "my one and only hit". Jimmy MacCarthy's first single was released on 45 rpm vinyl and never to my mind re-issued on CD. Brilliant debut that I remember so fondly from my formative years in UCD in the bleak time that was the 1980's in Dublin, Ireland. Many thanks to Jimmy MacCarthy oracle John Carroll of Canberra, Australia for sourcing the single and being kind enough to share a ripped copy. Apologies for the scratches and pops due to the age and condition of the 45. This is solely meant as a tribute to Jimmy and a chance to share a true rarity. The use of the images is considered fair use under copyright of the holders. If anyone has issues, I'll remove them. Otherwise please enjoy my first ever youtube music video!

  • Yes this is the same Jimmy. The new song is called "Hey Ho Believe" and its his first new release since 2002. Unfortunatley I can't upload it because I have not got the song on CD but hopefully when the album is out in May. I have all Jimmy's other records though, including this one.

  • Apologies all around. I thought he was referring to me!

If you have a better copy of Miles of Eyes than the one I posted, I'd really be interested in getting a hold of it.

  • Today in Galway city I heard a local busker sing this song. What a brilliant retro classic. I am searching down a clean copy of this song for my local radio show but so far no luck. This is the only place ive heard it so far!

  • @donalmahon Thanks for the comment and it is great to hear that buskers in Galway are playing the song. I'd be curious to know how the busker came across it. I've been looking for a clean copy myself for ages with no success. Let me know if you have any more luck.

    Cheers!

  • @donalmahon Heard you mention in on the radio this evening, I used to have the single, will search the garage at the weekend for it,

  • Gerard, any luck finding the 45?

  • His next single was Another Night at the Movies -I may have it somewhere but dont know for sure. Adam at the Window was the next 45 in 1988 and I have that one -great song.

  • the single he released after this is adam at the window, it has a picture cover, used to have it, would love to hear it again.

  • @mikefromireland ........'Hey Ho Believe' Fantastic song....I'm searching, but I can't find it here YET!!!!!! :)))

  • @jimmismash and @donalmahon. I believe I'm the busker he is talking about. I use an amp and a mic stand, if he's seen me. I remembered this song from my youth. Came across it when a friend of mine burnt me a copy. I do like in the movies too.

  • Does anyone have a copy of Jimmy MacCarthy's "The People of West Cork & Kerry". It was released as a single in 2000 and I'm still trying to source a copy.

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • This brings back memories!!! I remember buying this in Dolphin Discs within hours of it coming out. Still have my copy though I dont have a turntable to play it on. Loved the B-side Shuffle of the Buckled"

  • Hey thanks.

I don't know if I can really say that the Miles of Eyes copy I have is better than this one.

It does not have any scratches or anything but it is on the same track as the B-Side (Shuffle of the Buckled) due to an error with the vinyl rip.

I will send you a message.
