Orange Patch Dairy cuts and chops our first cutting of alfalfa for the 2010 season. This alfalfa was packed into a silage bag and will be stored for a few months, until needed. Then, we will feed this high quality feed to our milking cows. High quality feed helps to make high quality milk, from well cared for cows.

  • Isn't that the truth!

  • Thanks! It was fun making it~!

  • Our hay was actually about 24 inches tall, this footage was taken in the shorter part of the field.

  • that hay did not look long enoph to justify using all that fuel our hay was 20'' tall when we cut ti and we did not have to merge it together

  • @refriedrindog We merge it for 2 reason: to save fuel, by making the chopper tractor use its diesel more effciently and to reduce compaction on the field by reducing the number of trips the chopper makes across the field to fill a wagon.

  • @refriedrindog And we also merge it to keep up with the weather, by putting 3 windrows together we are able to keep the moisture of our haylage about 60-65%. Allowing us to cut all 130 acres at one time.
