NEW YORK — The leader of the International Monetary Fund and a possible candidate for president of France was pulled from an airplane moments before he was to fly to Paris and was being questioned Saturday by police in connection with the sexual assault of a hotel maid, police said.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn was taken off the Air France flight at John F. Kennedy International Airport by officers from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and turned over to police Saturday afternoon, said Paul J. Browne, New York Police Department spokesman.

He was being questioned by the NYPD special victims office. Strauss-Kahn had retained an attorney and was not making statements to police, Browne said. No charges have yet been filed.

The 32-year-old woman told authorities that she entered Strauss-Kahn's room at the luxury Sofitel hotel not far from Manhattan's Times Square at about 1 p.m. Saturday and he emerged from the bedroom naked, threw her down and attacked her, Browne said.

She told authorities that he tried to force her to perform oral sex on him. She somehow broke free and escaped the room and told hotel staff what had happened, authorities said. They called police.

When New York City police detectives arrived moments later, Strauss-Kahn had already left the hotel, leaving behind his cellphone, Browne said. "It looked like he got out of there in a hurry," Browne said.

The NYPD discovered that he was at the airport and contacted the Port Authority, who plucked Kahn from first class on the Air France flight that was just about to leave the gate.

The maid was taken by police to an area hospital. John Sheehan, a spokesman for the hotel, said its staff was cooperating with the authorities in the investigation.

William Murray, a spokesman for the IMF in Washington, said the IMF had no immediate comment. Strauss-Kahn's offices in Paris couldn't be reached when the news broke overnight in France, nor could French Socialist Party officials.

  • He is the victim of CIA's operation "Gallic Black Hole". This is the movie:

    1. The White House got very angry with IMF and Kahn's challenge on US, decided to get rid of him

    2. A CIA operation “Gallic Black Hole” was triggered

    3. CIA started to hunt his poo and found his interest in dark women

    4. A woman was sent to his room as a bail and instructions were given

    5. Consensual sex was initiated but the woman violently resisted it in the middle by following CIA instructions

  • 6. Rape scene was created, fatal stain was collected and she ran

    7. Police arrived and he was arrested “just in time” of his “flee”

    8. Mission completed and CIA was congratulated

    9. The collected poo was showered on him to discredit him

    10. He was forced to resign

    11. End

  • @tarasc94 There is also a double standard that is unique to rape cases. The woman who makes the allegation is protected by the media but the man is named from the beginning.Fairness demands that either both should be given anonimity or neither one should, the Duke case is the worst example in recent times. They all knew Crystal Mangum was lying but the media protected her anyway.

  • @TheShel10 and thats the sad thing. we live in a society where we are supposedly innocent until proven guilty, but dsk's career is gone now because of this which is unlikely to result in a conviction- i mean his reputation is tarnished and hes not been found guily yet. i think its the system not the prosecutors. i mean they could have tried to have saved face and not conceded the faults to the defense, many other prosecutors have done it before but they are good and only looking for justice.

  • @tarasc94 Now that more has come out about Diallo it does sound more like a set up.The fact that she lied in the past about being raped means it will be very difficult to proceed with the case.I wish they done a better investigation before arresting DKS because whatever happened he can never be given his reputation back.

  • @TheShel10 for me its the opposite. at first with all the medical evidence i sure that this was a good case but now with the new evidence, it seems like a setup.

  • I'm French and this seems MUCH too similar to Julian Assange's situation.. Hell, Strauss-Kahn was well on his way to the presidence, and when you're head of the IMF, you're not gonna just flunk it all for a BJ..Most of all this scandal is REALLY convenient for a whole lot of politicians with more conservative views, both in France and in the States. No one can really have a final opinion for now, though things are moving along and he's freed of charges...Guilty or not is political career is over.

  • @BruckMahl Mec, t'as au moins pigé le point de vue ici? Parceque sinon tu fermerais ta gueule, où au moins t'insulterais pas toute une nation sans vraie raison.
