  • Bill Evans isn't modern... Bill Evans is timeless.

  • It is plain to hear why Bill made remarks about the physical piano he had to play on this gig. Really ratty sound from that instrument. Even a Bill Evans couldn't improve on a trashy instrument. Did the gig owner expect Bill to tune the thing himself? Nowhere on its range is it true.

  • I can hear all the subtle qualities of his chords despite the piano being out of tune by his standard. Some of use off course can hear things much deeper and cleaner in the notes of a piano.

In contrast, the fathers of jazz piano were too crude to care too much about the exact miniscule tuning of the piano... yet they were great... and yet there is something beautiful about a chord slightly and unpredictably out of tune.

  • Man, I don't know. Yeah, the piano is definitely crap but I think Bill does indeed make it work.

  • he had a beard?

  • GOLD

  • I can appreciate Evan's anger with this ill-kept piano. Still, as ever, he's his own constellation. Always has been. Always will be.

Thanx pianopod. Thank you v. much.

  • The greatest. No other adjectives. All modern jazz pianists follow in his footsteps.

  • Maybe I'll be exaggerate, but sometimes I think no other pianist would have been necessary, after Bill Evans. After hearing him no other give you the same emotions...!!
