Mitch Miller and Ray Conniff recorded Marty on this fine Mack David/Jerry Livingston ballad in Hollywood in 1958. It was the flip side of 'The Hanging Tree', with featured another highly appealing Robbins performance.

  • El Paso wasn't a really big hit in the UK. It got in the top 20 and tailed off probably because of the D J 's reluctance to play it because of its length. The album 'Gunfighter Ballads' however, must have done really well in the UK as did the second album.

  • What a Amazing song, I love that song.

    It's really great..

Is there anybody who knows where I can bye that on a CD.???

  • Fantastic!

  • Marty at his best.

  • love this story! this stuff is what makes youutube. ok, and the music =)

  • One of my favorites cut can't find it anywhere to download. Lived in Europe in early 60s & EPs (4 songs on a 7" vinyl) were the favorites over LPs. I bought Marty's Hanging Tree with this song & Ain't I the Lucky One & can't remember the 4th song. Once on Midnight Special he was hosting with Loretta Lynn and she was drowning him out so he started just lip syncing the song & she caught on after about 5 seconds & hit him so hard he nearly fell off the staircase. God, I love em' both.

  • I love all Marty's songs, but this 1 is one of my most treasured gifts he gave us all. Yeah, humanity should come first and the rest would follow, but the greed for money and success and exhibition has taken the upper hand so that 1 feels a stranger as soon as he walks out of his door. Too bad, but we can still remedy if we really want and our children will live in a better world, humanity wise, that is. Selfishness is the mother of all evels, it's high time we realize it.

    Thanks so much!

  • This song is one of my favorite one. Also hits in Japan. However "EL PASO" is not to have become a big hit in our country to the mysterious thing. Probably "Is There Any Chance" it became a big hit than US Chart.

I feels that the taste of the Japanese is rather different to Marty's song in my opinion.

Always thank you for nice posting.
