Vermont railway's Green Mountain ALCO RS-1 405 powers a 11:30 White River Flyer excursion and also a New England Central GP38 3844 running around White River Junction, VT.

I was jumping back and forth filming Amtrak and the Green Mountain which is first seen preparing the train for the passengers to board. I'm not sure why the NECR unit was jumping around town, but after I left they went to the north end yard and did some shifting; there was supposed to be a northbound train but it didn't come before the time we had to leave. Next, the Green Mountain train departs, and then the NECR GP38-2 goes back and forth some more.

This is on 10-13-09, on the way home from a college visit at Norwich University. Unfortunately I couldn't catch more, but I was lucky to come across a busy White River Junction.

  • White River is a cool place. Historic town, rustic railroad, cool boutiques and restaurants, even Northern Stage's intimate theater with live plays. Romeo & Juliet was awesome!! The comic Boeing-Boeing is coming Nov. 2. It's a "must-visit" town... not to mention the picturesque Green Mountain landscapes. Come visit us. We love it here. So will you. (posted 10-21-11)

  • Nice video! That GP38 Looks like and old Alaska Engin.

  • in some cases yes, example: The new generations of theEMD SD70ACe have an Ebell, the pase generations gave a geep bell, the old models of GE HAVE Gepp bells, i dont now why this GP38 have an Ebell

  • so emd and ge have 2 diff sounding bells and the emd sounds more real/??

  • compare the two sounds the geep bell sound more realistic

  • then how does a gevo bell sound any diffrent from a geep bell?

  • wll the Ebell is an a Electric Bell, its a Recorded sound of a bell, the normal bell is real, and its no recorded sounds

  • im confused i know there are ebells and regular bells but i thought a bell was a bell do they have diffrent models?

  • I sure miss going to White River Junction. Went there once a week in the worst of cold weather. It was wonderful! Oh, great video too!!
