Part 1 of 2. This chapel was built in the 12th century by Crusader Hospitaller Knights, then used as an animal stable after the Muslim invasion (note the defaced frescoes), then finally restored to use as a Catholic chapel in the 19th century. It is built on the location traditionally believed to be the biblical Emmaus. The chapel today is the heart of a monastery of monks and nuns of the Benedictine Order.
