Did you ever get this sorted or find a solution? I have the same problem with my late 2008 macbook pro (unibody, removable battery) and it's driving me insane. If i use headphones the sound sporadically switches to internal speakers.

I myself have a DJ quality SONY headphone and cant enjoy it because of this. I think its intentional as the iPhone earphone does not do this, shame on you Apple!
