  • Genil Castro is a master of traditional jazz guitar. His harmonic complexity, technical wizardry and warm tone exhibits a high degree of respect for the history of the instrument. He draws from the best of the older masters - Jim Hall, Wes Montgomery, Pat Martino and such - while also stepping into the modern world with sounds reminiscent of John Scofield and Bill Frisell. I consider this requisite listening for any lover of true jazz guitar. He may well be the next great one.
