Diesel Loco No.1 'Amanda' heads the 'Pines Express' away from Common Lane station on the Gartell Light Railway. Note the head-board! This narrow-gauge (2ft) line is situated just south of Templecombe, Somerset. The loco is being driven by the main constructor of the loco, John Uphill, and filmed by his son Michael.

  • Yes; they plied the Waterloo-Exeter line which is only about a mile or so from the GLR, although this one is more like a 'slim-Jim' due to GLR loading gauge restrictions! Also it is diesel-hydraulic not diesel-electric. It drives all eight wheels, and sounds rather nice. (better than this short vid can show) Do come and see the GLR; it's unique. Incidentally, the Festiniog have done a 'look-a-like' I think it is a '66' - an excellent job. Thanks for your comment - your site looks good, btw!
