Sorry it took so long to get this uploaded! It's another firing with the same ramp as the previous one, with a hold at ^04 and ^5. Made a lot of mistakes in this firing, including putting slip on bisqued pots (hey, all in the name of testing!), and using the Laguna Clear Bright over colors that it wipes out. Lots of pots got the hammer in this load. Take a look, and learn from my "challenges"! I know I will.
Of course, I'll know for sure in the morning when I open this glaze load (different ramp). New vid to follow soon, I hope.

  • wow you have helped so much with my Laguna glazes, I struggle with them too. sometimes the chun red is really nice and then again it crawls if you get it too thick. great job on your video's thanks.

  • Glad to be able to help. That's why I post them, to see if anyone has answers or I have answers for anyone! I have a few more kiln openings in the can but haven't had time to edit.

I haven't seen the Chun Red crawl on any of my pots yet, but it certainly will run if applied really thick. I've used that in a couple of pots and I really like the look.

  • tip from pitter reverse the cones put the one that melt first in front of the ones that melt later then they wont hit eacher dp thank for joining my sight

  • Thanks for checking in! I've definitely sorted that cone-order thing out now.

  • Thanks for sharing! I use a lot of Laguna Clay glazes also. A note on the chun red... my experience is that it has to be quite thick to keep the red. Like the celadon froth, very nice!

    Keep posting, Sharon

  • I am beginning to think that the reason my test tiles don't look like my pots is that the glaze did indeed go on much thicker on the tiles. I'm so uncertain about dipping the larger pots (worried about uneven coverage) that I don't think they're getting the same kind of thickness that the easy-to-dip tiles got. I'm still working on that, and I'm going to try to throw a lot more often, so I can glaze-fire more frequently, and with any luck, more consistently. I really like the cel-froth too!

  • You do a great job of explaining on camera. I get the camera rolling on me and I can't remember my own name, let alone the name of a glaze :)

  • Glad I can be of service :) !! And if you found these helpful, I've got another opening to post with some good, some bad, and some plain ugly! Sometime this week I think, in two parts because I have a LOT to say.

  • the chun ren is a pain pain pain... I don't ever even use it. It never comes out

  • Thanks for the great videos. Your tests are actually helping me figure out my glazing problems. :)
