I guess it's the different religious culture and historical claims that give rise to the "animosity". It's an uphill task for the Authority to find a balance.

wonderful place too bad the bad animosity between the Han Chinese and the Uighur. you can feel the tension when you visit the place especially if you are chinese.

@crazywolfhitman According to ancient history, the Chinese already there ( Silk route to the west) since the Han dynasty 100BC after they defeated the invading northern Huns.
Uighurs came and settled at ~600AD during Tang dynasty i.e ~700 years later from the north (now Mongolia) when their empire were crushed by Kyrgiz.

there is over 200 million muslims in china -the government does not declare it-many chinese muslims dont even mention they re muslims to the governmnt---based upon number of mosques registered and the sizes for them the figures look even higher--just after world war 2 there was 50 million muslims in chang kai sheks china today the chinese government says its less than this-the governmnt is not speaking the truth-20 million muslims in soviet union?--today we see it was many times higher
