BOSTON -- Nathan Horton scored with 7:33 left in the third period to snap a scoreless tie and send the Bruins to a 1-0 win over the Lightning in an electrifying Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals. The win sends the Bruins to the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in 21 years and gives them a date with Vancouver Canucks starting next Wednesday in British Columbia. Tim Thomas stopped 24 shots for the Bruins, who are now four wins from their first Stanley Cup title since 1972.

The first period featured several scoring chances for the Bruins, including one by Milan Lucic on a breakaway with 4:51 left. But Dwayne Roloson stopped it and 14 other first period shots. Roloson had been 7-0 in playoff elimination games entering Friday's Game 7.

Horton missed the last seven minutes of the first after colliding with Blair Jones in the neutral zone. Horton returned to start the second. Then, the Lightning lost star forward Steven Stamkos when Johnny Boychuk's shot hit him in the nose. Stamkos immdiately skated off the ice under his own power and to the dressing room. He returned later in the period with a cage similar to the one Chris Kelly wore in first round of the playoffs.

The Bruins continued to dominate in the second, with several quality chances from David Krejci but Roloson was spectacular and turned each one away. In a flurry with 2:30 left in the period, Roloson turned away Mark Recchi twice on back-to-back bids and took a slap shot off the facemask from Boychuk, only to violently shake it off and right himself in the crease.

The Bruins finally broke through when Horton positioned himself on the doorstep and redirected Krejci's pass behind Roloson on Boston's 35th shot on the night, sending the Garden into pandemonium.

Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals will be Wednesday in Vancouver, with Game 2 set for Friday night. Games 3 and 4 will be back in Boston on June 6 and 8.

    how could i? lol

what a great season and always nice to see idiots like @Diz suck it hard

  • @DizShaWTYcrUNK wow... there are a few Swiss players in the league moron so why can't he cheer for the NHL? The KHL is just as strong as they recently signed an agreement so players can shift back and forth from the leagues.. There are tons of Europeans in the NHL dude it's not just American or Canadian...

  • @facciadimerda Don't forget that 8-1 game lol...

  • I watched this game in full. Awesome game only one goal because both goalies were unbelievable. Roloson really did match Thomas almost till the end but the game pace was well controlled by the defense on both sides and sometimes it's nice to see that it wasn't a wild all out affair but I guess when you are that close to the stanley cup you have to play it that way :)

  • how bout them Bucks eh?

  • @DizShaWTYcrUNK

LOL So only people living in North America can be fans of an NHL team? Are you serious or just plain dumb?

Check your team roster and you will see that even euros play hockey...

No need to be diplomatic now, after you had a big mouth before. You got owned like your team, so shut up and enjoy the tissues.

It wasn't only Thomas who was better than Luongo, your whole team failed. 8 goals in 7 games, great offence hahahaha

  • @facciadimerda you are from switzerland so what do you care? last time i checked only american and canadian teams are in the nhl. and i am enjoying second place. it is an honor to be in the finals.
