This movie shows a physics-based computer simulation of a lahar running down Mt. Rainier, Washington State. Lahars pose a serious natural hazard to populations surrounding volcanoes. Towns around Mt. Rainier can be struck by lahars within 20 minutes of their formation on the mountain's upper slopes. Simulations like these help map out potential lahar paths and aid in planning.
